Who Will Be Tomorrow’s Technicians?
Among those watching eight of Yamaha’s best marine technicians putting their skills to the test at the recent 2026 Yamaha Oceania Technician Grand Prix – Marine in Brisbane was Kenyon Ward, a man with one eye on the current crop of top techs and the other on the lookout for the next generation and beyond.
Kenyon had travelled from the US to see the competition firsthand, but his interest extended well beyond who is the best this year. For him, the big question is: who will become tomorrow’s Yamaha technicians wanting to take on the tech challenge, both in the marine and motorcycle industries?
Working across Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan, Kenyon has spent much of the past seven years looking at ways to attract young people into technical careers and create pathways that take them from the classroom into Yamaha dealerships. And the need is siginificant.
